چکیده

Hands-free devices, such as mobile phones, are perhaps one of the most prominent applications of acoustic echo cancellation systems. They are often used in a noisy enclosed environment. Therefore, the recorded near-end speech will also contain reverberation and background noise, which degrade the fidelity and intelligibility of speech. In the last two decades postprocessors have been developed for suppressing residual echo and background noise in single microphone acoustic echo cancellation systems. Residual echo and noise suppression are usually performed using a simple spectral enhancement technique, which can distort the desired near-end speech signal. Furthermore, dereverberation of the near-end speech signal has never been addressed in this context. In this paper we present a novel post-processor which suppresses late reverberation of the nearend speech signal, residual echo, and background noise. In our approach the acoustic echo path is divided into three distinct parts, each parts is handled in a different way. Moreover, we determine room characteristics such as the reverberation time from the estimated acoustic echo path. These room characteristics are used to estimate the residual echo related to the tail of the acoustic echo path and the late reverberant energy of the near-end speech signal. A single post-filter is applied to the error signal of the acoustic echo canceller to obtain an estimate of the dereverberated near-end speech signal. Experimental results demonstrate the beneficial use of the proposed system for reducing reverberation, residual echo and background noise.

Joint noise reduction and dereverberation of speech using hybrid TF-GSC and adaptive MMSE estimator

This paper proposes a new multichannel hybrid method for dereverberation of speech signals in noisy environments. This method extends the use of a hybrid noise reduction method for dereverberation which is based on the combination of Generalized Sidelobe Canceller (GSC) and a single-channel noise reduction stage. In this research, we employ Transfer Function GSC (TF-GSC) that is more suitable f...

A New Method for Speech Enhancement Based on Incoherent Model Learning in Wavelet Transform Domain

Quality of speech signal significantly reduces in the presence of environmental noise signals and leads to the imperfect performance of hearing aid devices, automatic speech recognition systems, and mobile phones. In this paper, the single channel speech enhancement of the corrupted signals by the additive noise signals is considered. A dictionary-based algorithm is proposed to train the speech...

Multi-step linear prediction based speech dereverberation in noisy reverberant environment

A speech signal captured by a distant microphone is generally contaminated by reverberation and background noise, which severely degrade the automatic speech recognition (ASR) performance. In this paper, we first extend a previously proposed single channel dereverberation algorithm to a multi-channel scenario. The method estimates late reflections using multichannel multi-step linear prediction...

Speech Quality Assessment for Listening-Room Compensation

In this contribution objective measures for quality assessment of speech signals are evaluated for listening-room compensation algorithms. Dereverberation of speech signals by means of equalization of the room impulse response and reverberation suppression has been an active research topic within the last years. However, no commonly accepted objective quality measures exist for assessment of th...

Joint noise reduction and acoustic echo cancellation using the transfer-function generalized sidelobe canceller

Man machine interaction requires an acoustic interface for providing full duplex hands-free communication. The transfer-function generalized sidelobe canceller (TF-GSC) is an adaptive beamformer suitable for enhancing a speech signal received by an array of microphones in a noisy and reverberant environment. When an echo signal is also present in the microphone output signals, cascade schemes o...
